Whaley House (Old Town San Diego)

Built in 1857 by Thomas Whaley, the Whaley House occupies a lot in Old Town that had previously been used for the town gallows. The building later served as a family home, general store, and county courthouse and is now a house museum. The property has long been the focus of ghost stories and has been the subject of numerous paranormal investigations; characterizations of it as "haunted" are part of local folklore and remain debated. The Whaley House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
