Dewey Monument (Union Square)

The Dewey Monument is a 13.5-foot bronze statue of Nike atop a 85-foot column installed in Union Square in 1903 to commemorate Admiral George Dewey’s victory at the Battle of Manila Bay. The monument and its fountain serve as a central sculptural feature of Union Square Park and have been a longstanding civic landmark and meeting point in downtown San Francisco. The statue and column were funded by private subscriptions and remain maintained as public art in the square.
