The M. D. Anderson Cancer Center (named for Monroe Dunaway Anderson)

The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center was established in 1941 by the Texas Legislature as the M. D. Anderson Hospital for Cancer Research and named for banker and philanthropist Monroe Dunaway Anderson, whose foundation provided key early funding. The center's main campus is a cornerstone of Houston's Texas Medical Center and is internationally recognized for cancer patient care and research. The name reflects Anderson's role in the institution's founding.
