African Meeting House

Built in 1806 on the north slope of Beacon Hill, the African Meeting House is the oldest surviving Black church building in the United States and was a central site for abolitionist organizing and community life in 19th-century Boston. It hosted speeches by prominent abolitionists and served as a school and meeting place for Boston's free Black community. The building is part of the Boston African American National Historic Site and houses a museum interpreting Black history in Boston.
