Pemberton Hall (Salisbury, Maryland)

Pemberton Hall is a historic house located in Pemberton Park, Salisbury, Maryland, known for its unique Flemish bond brick architecture and gambrel roof. Built in 1741 by Col. Isaac Handy, the house played a significant role during the American Civil War as the residence of Southern sympathizer Allison Parsons, who famously fired a cannon to celebrate Confederate victories, leading to a raid by U.S. Army soldiers. The property changed hands several times, including a purchase by Maryland Governor Elihu E. Jackson in 1868, and was owned by Seth Taylor from 1931 to 1963 before being restored by the Pemberton Hall Foundation. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in American history.
