Aggrey House

Aggrey House, established in 1934 in London, served as a hostel for African students and those of African descent. Named after the influential educator James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey, it was located at 47 Doughty Street, adjacent to the former home of Charles Dickens. The hostel became a vibrant cultural hub under Warden Ivor Cummings, hosting lectures and social events featuring prominent figures like George Padmore and Jomo Kenyatta. In 1943, it relocated to 17 Russell Square and was renamed 'The Colonial Centre', expanding its mission to support all Colonial students and war workers.
