The Grotto (National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother) and its Festival of Lights

The Grotto is a Catholic shrine and botanical garden featuring a cliffside sanctuary, Stations of the Cross, and sculptural devotional art overlooking northeast Portland. Each winter it presents the Festival of Lights, a seasonal display of thousands of lights that has been held annually since the 1980s. The site functions both as a place of worship and a public garden with walking paths and viewpoints.
