Vesuvio Cafe

Vesuvio Cafe opened in 1948 at 255 Columbus Avenue in North Beach and became a well-known gathering spot for Beat Generation writers, including Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. Situated across from City Lights Books, the bar has long been part of the neighborhood's literary and nightlife culture. The establishment continues to operate and is commonly referenced in accounts of San Francisco's mid-20th-century bohemian scene.
