Airbnb was founded in San Francisco in August 2008 by Brian Chesky, Joe Gebbia, and Nathan Blecharczyk. The company popularized peer-to-peer short-term lodging by enabling hosts to list spare rooms and entire homes and travelers to book them through an online platform.
