Swyddfa'r Sir

Swyddfa'r Sir, meaning 'county office' in Welsh, is a historic Grade II listed building in Aberystwyth, originally opened in 1866 as the Queen's Hotel. Designed in a symmetrical Hôtel de Ville style, it features a stunning stone exterior and intricate gothic architecture. Over the years, it has served various purposes, including a Royal Air Force base during WWII, a council office, and a magistrates court. The building gained fame as the exterior of the police station in the BBC series Y Gwyll (Hinterland). Currently, it is being transformed into a spa hotel with luxury apartments, making it an interesting site for both tourists and researchers interested in Welsh history and architecture.
