Dickenson Road Studios

Dickenson Road Studios, located in Rusholme, Manchester, was a notable film and television studio that operated from 1947 until 1975. Originally a Wesleyan Methodist chapel built in 1862, it was transformed into a film studio by Mancunian Films, making it the first British film studio outside of southeast England. The studio gained fame for producing early editions of the iconic music show 'Top of the Pops' from 1964 to 1966, featuring legendary performances by artists like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. After its acquisition by the BBC in 1954, it became a hub for regional television production until its closure and subsequent demolition in 1975. The site is a significant part of Manchester's cultural history, reflecting the evolution of media production in the UK.
