Louloudies

Louloudies is an archaeological site in Pieria, northern Greece, notable for its fortified bishop's seat from the Byzantine era. Located near Katerini and the ancient city of Pydna, it played a significant role in early Christian history. The site features a complex built in the late 5th century, including a three-aisled basilica and a bishop's residence, surrounded by defensive walls and towers. Excavations conducted between 1993 and 1997 revealed artifacts that illuminate daily life from the 4th to 7th centuries, including remnants of a villa and facilities for wine and olive oil production. The area is rich in history, having been a strategic location during the Gothic siege of Thessaloniki and later abandoned due to barbarian attacks.
