Tavern on Mutton Hill

The Tavern on Mutton Hill, built in 1813, is a historic brick tavern located in Charlotte, Vermont. It is a notable example of Federal period architecture and the only documented 19th-century tavern in the area. This two-and-a-half-story structure features a distinctive facade with a sunburst-patterned transom and retains much of its original woodwork. Once a key stop on the stagecoach route, it was owned by prominent local figures, including Nathaniel Newell, a civic leader. The tavern was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, making it an interesting site for tourists and researchers alike.
