South Station (Boston's rail and bus hub)

South Station, located at 700 Atlantic Avenue, opened in 1899 and serves as Boston's primary intercity rail and bus terminal, accommodating Amtrak, MBTA commuter rail, MBTA Red Line subway service (adjacent), and regional bus carriers. The station's headhouse and terminal functions make it a central transportation and commuter gateway for Greater Boston and New England. South Station also contains retail spaces and is connected to surrounding commercial districts by pedestrian concourses.
