Kumeyaay attack on Mission San Diego de Alcalá (1775)

On November 4, 1775, Kumeyaay warriors attacked Mission San Diego de Alcalá, burned many mission buildings, and killed Father Luis Jayme. The assault forced the mission's temporary abandonment and contributed to its relocation and rebuilding the following year. The mission was reestablished in 1776 and the site now includes the historic mission church and museum.
