Avangard Stadium (Vyborg)

Avangard Stadium, located in Vyborg, Russia, is a historic multi-purpose sports venue that opened in 1933. Originally designed by Finnish architect Uno Ullberg, it was known as the Vyborg Central Sports Stadium when the city was part of Finland. With a capacity of over 15,000 spectators, it was once the most modern stadium in Finland and served as the home ground for the football club Sudet. The stadium hosted significant events, including the 1937 Finnish Championships in Athletics, and was intended for the 1940 Summer Olympics, which were ultimately canceled. After sustaining damage during World War II, the stadium was renovated and renamed Avangard Stadium following Vyborg's transition to Soviet control. Today, it stands as a testament to the city's rich sporting history and architectural heritage.
