Herrevad Abbey

Herrevad Abbey, located near Ljungbyhed in Scania, Sweden, was Denmark's first Cistercian monastery, founded in 1144. It became a significant religious and cultural center, known for its impressive Romanesque and later Brick Gothic architecture. The abbey was home to notable figures, including astronomer Tycho Brahe, who conducted groundbreaking work there. Following the Protestant Reformation, the abbey was secularized but continued to function similarly to a monastery until the late 16th century. Today, it is known as Herrevad Castle, offering visitors a glimpse into its rich history and architectural beauty, as well as its role in the development of early Scandinavian astronomy.
