Slate Hill Plantation

Slate Hill Plantation is a historic site located in Prince Edward County, Virginia, known for its role in the Antebellum South as a tobacco plantation. Established in 1739, the plantation features a main house built in 1756 by Nathaniel Venable, a notable figure in Virginia's history. In 1775, important discussions regarding the founding of Hampden–Sydney College took place here. The plantation spans 252 acres and has been the focus of archaeological restoration efforts since 2006, revealing artifacts such as ceramics from the 1790s. Visitors can learn about its rich history and its connection to early American education through exhibits at the nearby Esther Thomas Atkinson Museum.
