Fort Rosecrans / Cabrillo National Monument coastal defense tunnels

Cabrillo National Monument on Point Loma preserves remnants of Fort Rosecrans and associated coastal defense batteries that include underground magazines, storage rooms, and connecting corridors constructed for harbor defense from the late 19th century through World War II. Several concrete battery emplacements and their subterranean support spaces remain visible along park trails and are documented by the National Park Service. These underground features were integral to San Diego Bay's historical coastal defense system and are interpreted for visitors and researchers. The park provides on-site information about the batteries, magazines, and related tunnelized structures.
