Island Home

Island Home is a historic house located in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, near Gardner, built around 1850 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Accessible via a bridge over Bayou Rapides, this central hall plan house features a five-bay front facade with Classical Revival elements, primarily reflecting Greek Revival architecture. Its unique entrance includes side lights that extend to the transom above the door. Despite some modifications over the years, including a false gallery for rain protection, the house retains much of its original charm and is part of a study of Neoclassical farm-plantation houses along the bayou, making it an intriguing site for both tourists and researchers interested in historical architecture.
