A Downtown San Antonio Crash Sent One Vehicle Rolling Nearly an Entire City Block
By Seeker
A two-vehicle collision in the middle of downtown San Antonio became far more dramatic than a typical intersection crash when one of the vehicles overturned and reportedly continued rolling nearly an entire block.
The wreck happened August 16 at Soledad Street and East Houston Street, a busy downtown intersection surrounded by hotels, offices, restaurants and pedestrian traffic. The intersection sits beside the historic Rand Building at 110 E. Houston Street. Reddit
Accounts from people familiar with the crash indicated that both vehicles may have been in the hands of valet drivers at the time. One vehicle was reportedly being taken toward a parking garage when the collision occurred. Another account claimed one driver entered the intersection against a red light, although that detail has not been independently confirmed by San Antonio police. Reddit
The most striking part was what happened after impact. One of the vehicles flipped and traveled an unusually long distance down Soledad Street before finally coming to rest. Considering the narrow downtown streets, nearby sidewalks and frequent pedestrian traffic, the scene could easily have produced a much more serious outcome.
No detailed public police report or local news account could be located confirming the exact speed, fault or injuries involved, so those details remain unclear.
The location itself makes the wreck particularly notable. Soledad and Houston sits in one of downtown San Antonio's busiest corridors, only a short distance from the River Walk, Main Plaza and several major hotels. The area normally forces drivers to contend with traffic signals, pedestrians, delivery vehicles and frequent valet activity.
Whatever ultimately caused the collision, the aftermath left one of downtown San Antonio's most heavily traveled intersections looking more like the end of a high-speed crash than a routine Sunday drive.
