Desperado Resort - A Project Left Behind

Once known as Guadalupe River Ranch, the property sat abandoned for decades before being purchased in 2023 by Matt Carriker, who set out to transform it into a destination called Desperado Resort. The plan was to create an outdoor retreat-featuring hiking trails, river access, primitive camping, and eventually cabins and larger events. For a time, the property did open in a limited capacity, allowing visitors to explore the land and camp along the river. But the full vision was never realized. The resort remained in its early stages, without the expanded infrastructure that had been intended. In early 2025, Carriker announced he was stepping away from YouTube to focus on his personal life and would be selling the property. Without the platform and audience that helped support the project, momentum faded. By 2026, the land was sold to Kendall County, which now plans to convert it into a public park and conservation area, preserving access to the river and surrounding landscape. What remains is not the story of a sudden failure, but of a shift in direction. A project built on vision and personal drive was ultimately set aside, leaving the land to take on a new purpose-one that will be shaped not by a single creator, but by the public who will one day explore it.
