Porch House, Northallerton

Porch House is a historic building in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, constructed in 1584 for Richard Metcalfe. Notable for its large two-storey porch added in 1684, the house has undergone several alterations over the centuries, including a significant renovation in 1781. Local lore suggests that Charles I stayed and was imprisoned here, and a rumored secret tunnel to All Saints' Church adds to its intrigue. The building, which has been a guest house since 2009, features a mix of architectural styles with a timber-framed core and is grade II listed since 1969.
