Faneuil Hall

Faneuil Hall was built in 1742 with funds donated by merchant Peter Faneuil and long served as a public meeting hall and marketplace. In the years before the American Revolution, patriots including Samuel Adams and others delivered political speeches and organized public protest there. The building became a focal point for public political discourse in colonial and early national Boston and remains a historic site on the Freedom Trail.
