Moritzbastei

The Moritzbastei is a historic bastion in Leipzig, Germany, and the last remnant of the city's ancient fortifications. Built between 1551 and 1554 under Mayor Hieronymus Lotter, it was named after Elector Moritz of Saxony. The bastion has a rich history, serving various roles from military defense to a public school, and later as a student club. After extensive reconstruction by students in the 1970s, it became a cultural center in 1993, hosting events and performances for up to 1,200 guests. Today, it stands as a vibrant hub for student and academic culture in Leipzig, attracting artists and visitors from around the world.
