Singer Building was briefly the world's tallest

Completed in 1908 for the Singer Manufacturing Company, the Singer Building at 149 Broadway rose to approximately 612 feet and was the tallest building in the world upon its completion. It held that title until 1909 when the Metropolitan Life Tower exceeded its height. The building was demolished in 1968, making it one of the tallest skyscrapers ever intentionally razed at that time.
