Iate Tênis Clube

The Iate Tênis Clube, or Yacht Tennis Club, is a stunning recreational facility located on the picturesque shores of Lake Pampulha in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer in the early 1940s, it is part of the Pampulha Architectural Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2016. Originally established as the Yacht Golf Club, the club features a striking building with the Portinari Room, showcasing murals by the famous artist Candido Portinari. The outdoor gardens, designed by landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx, enhance the club's beauty. While the club remains operational, it faces challenges due to an annex built in the 1970s that obstructs views of the nearby Igreja da Pampulha. UNESCO has mandated the demolition of this annex to preserve the site's integrity, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers.
