Wherry Block

The Wherry Block, also known as Wherry's Hall and Scruby Brothers Grocery, is a historic building in Des Moines, Iowa, constructed in 1887. Built by local contractor S.C. Wherry, it was the first commercial building in North Des Moines, showcasing Late Victorian architectural style with cast stone trim and a pressed metal cornice. The two-story brick structure features two storefronts on the ground level and four apartments above. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998 and underwent extensive renovations in 2005, with a new building added nearby that complements its historic design.
