Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World)

The Statue of Liberty is a neoclassical sculpture by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi with an internal iron framework engineered by Gustave Eiffel. It was a gift from France, dedicated on October 28, 1886, and stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. The monument was designated a National Monument in 1924 and has been a major arrival-period landmark for immigrants arriving by sea.
