Birmingham Manor (Maryland)

Birmingham Manor, a historic slave plantation home in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, was the ancestral residence of the Snowden family for five generations. Built by Richard Snowden Jr., this brick structure featured a central hall and a semicircle of barns for tobacco cultivation, set on a sprawling 10,000-acre estate by 1790. The manor was lost to a fire in 1891, which revealed hidden family parchments just before its destruction. Today, much of the land has been repurposed for Fort George G. Meade and the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, with remnants of the family cemetery remaining largely inaccessible. The site is now intersected by the Baltimore–Washington Parkway, making it a point of interest for those exploring the region's history.
