United States Supreme Court Building

Completed in 1935 in the Beaux-Arts classical tradition, the Supreme Court Building features a broad portico, Corinthian columns, and sculptural pediment work that articulate its civic role. Architect Cass Gilbert designed the structure to provide an independent, monumental home for the Court distinct from the Capitol. Interior spaces such as the Great Hall and the marble-finished Courtroom reflect early-20th-century federal monumentality.
