Why I launched Locory

I founded Locory because I kept coming back to one idea: a map becomes more meaningful when it helps people understand why a location matters, not just where it is.

Part of that inspiration came from watching Curiosity Corner on YouTube. Their short videos about locations around San Antonio highlighted something I already felt but had not fully articulated. A street, building, corner, or public space can look ordinary until someone explains the history, memory, or local story attached to it. Once that context is there, the place changes.

As someone building a company in San Antonio, that hit close to home. This city has layers. Some are widely known. Many are not. There are stories tied to neighborhoods, businesses, gathering spots, landmarks, and everyday places that deserve to be easier to discover. Watching those videos made me think about how much local context is scattered across memory, conversation, and niche corners of the internet instead of being connected to the map itself.

That is the gap Locory is meant to address. I wanted to create something that lets people attach story and significance to real locations in a way that is simple to browse, share, and improve over time. Not every place needs to be famous. Some of the most interesting locations are meaningful precisely because they are local, personal, or easy to overlook.

San Antonio shaped that vision from the start. It is where Locory is based, and it is the place that made the problem feel concrete. When you live in a city with deep history and strong neighborhood identity, you notice how often the most interesting context travels by word of mouth. A map can do more than point you somewhere. It can help preserve what people know about that place and make discovery easier for someone else.

That is the founder perspective behind Locory. The product is not just about coordinates, pins, or directories. It is about helping people see locations with more depth. Curiosity Corner's videos helped sharpen that idea for me, and Locory is my attempt to build a home for that kind of place-based storytelling.
